I will, provisionally, change the site to copyright and if the majority opinion is otherwise then it can easily be changed back. This seems like the safest option at present. I guess that even if the majority are in favour of Creative Commons there will always be some members who do object to this. It seems fairer all round if members can set there own agenda in this respect.

First I'm not wearing my legal hat here as this isn't my field! I agree with Peter's comment about the dual nature of the things we put on the wiki. The "Creative Commons" is appropriate when material is jointly created and edited. We may get to that stage on the "communal" parts of the site. I don't mind the "Creative Commons" applying to the material I've put on here. As it happens much of what I have added is by way of links to material I have stashed away elsewhere on other websites. That wasn't intentional, but because I haven't yet worked out how to keep formatting when I paste things onto wiki pages.

I'll go with the majority.

As you know I am a moderator on the Lulu UK forum and have also been helping out on another forum for authors.
I'd be more than happy to take o a moderator role especially as I am not yet able to contribute to the Lulu Help pages being a Booksurge/Bookforce author.

There are also a series of, mostly blank, pages for help with using Lulu, so feel free to add any tips to these if you feel that you have something to teach about the Lulu publishing experience, and any help here would be much appreciated. I don't often get the time to add a great deal due to the two jobs, publishing empire, wiki administration (x2) and three other websites that I produce, not to mention the obscene amount of time I spend making coffee, rolling cigarettes and deleting spam emails. Susan has added some material to these (many thanks!) and if everyone contributes a bit they should become useful guides for less experienced Luluians.

The wiki will also be in need of a few moderators at some point so if you have some basic knowledge of the wiki syntax used here, and don't mind helping other members out occassionally, let me know. There are a few of you who I know would make very good moderators. Moderators have full permissions on the site, including (as I understand it) editing system pages, forum categories, banning members, etc, so it's a bit of a responsibility, though I would still, as administrator, wield supreme executive power. You may, quite rightly, hit back with, "Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony"; and in an ideal world all of our members would be admin; alas, in this world though, I feel that chaos, bloodshed, pillaging and an add a letter thread on the forum would be the inevitable result. I am, of course, joking, and multiple admin is highly likely at some point in the not too distant future.

The only problem is that, without paying extra, only the last 100 page views will be shown, so to get a realistic picture of keywords used you may need to check on the Stats more than once a day. We get anything between 100 and 400 page views a day so on a good day you'd need to check it four times to get the full picture.

Either that or it takes a short time to add the count. I've noticed before that my visit is not counted whilst I'm on the site, but I go to view the Stats, or elsewhere, and when I return the count has risen by one, even though I know for a fact that no-one else was visiting.

I've used this Statcounter on my own website for over a year and it's generally regarded as one of the best around. If you click on the "View our Stats" link you should be able to see the details for any visitors, when they dropped by, how many times they've been and where they have come from.

That's a bit odd. On the left menu as I type I am No. 1158. That means two of us are visitor number 1158. How does that work?

Of these 733 are first time visitors and 425 are returning visitors (you, I, Taff, Susan, Zainabb, Ken etc). So there are obviously quite a few non-members dropping by. No doubt many are Lulu members who are not members here and also wikidot members who trawl the other sites for ideas, but it's obvious from the referrer stats that many visitors are now arriving from Google.

Pete, I have also noticed that the visitor count on the left menu only updates if I leave the site then return, though it may update if you click refresh, though it definitely does count these visits. As I said above it has to be a few hours between visits otherwise it will count it as the same visit. As above it won't actually matter whether you've logged in or not, the Statcounter will still recognise that it's you.

By the way, we've just had our 20th member join. KJC is from Ireland and though I personally don't see any problem with Luluians from Ireland joining you'll have to let me know if anyone else has a problem with this.

Whenever I visit the wiki, I have to log in. There doesn't seem to be a 'save password' button. I'm wondering how many of our statistics are distorted by each of our own visits being counted twice??

Sorry for not being available lately but I've been having some serious problems with my laptop, which has been switching itself off after about 5 minutes use each time. Obviously this makes it impossible to do just about anything. Today I've had it working for over half an hour on two separate occassions, so hopefully it's sorted, but I'm hoping to get a PC at the weekend just in case. I'd like to say hello to all of the members who have joined since my laptop went down and I'll do my best to catch up with any problems. I'll create some members pages for those who have recently joined, if my laptop holds out. Wish me luck.
